An identity invoked implicitly in P.M. Young's (D, G)-K iteration for mixed-mu synthesis is formally stated and a direct, conceptual proof is provided. The identity holds both in discrete-time and in continuous-time. Connection with the (D,G)-K iteration is explicited and variations on the iteration are suggested.
