Development of a medium-range planning strategy for multi-product-plants
A growing industrial interest in batch processing has been recognized over the last two decades. Production of foods, pharmaceuticals, paints and specialty chemicals is performed in batch-mode. Due to vivid and fast changing markets for these products the need for adjusting the existing production programs occurs constantly. First ideas about the adjustments of a production program are developed by the management due to market analyses and sales figures. The final decisions have to be prepared through different analyses and optimizations. For these tasks efficient tools and methods are needed to handle the given complexity of industrial-sized batch production. In this paper the combination of a commercial modeling- and simulation system with methods of analysis and optimization is proposed and exemplarily described.
