Molybdenum-iron-sulfur clusters of nuclearities eight and sixteen, including a topological analogue of the P-cluster of nitrogenase
The synthesis and crystallographic and spectroscopic characterizations of the novel Ni(II)-doped mixed-halide compound CsCdBrCl2 are reported. CsCdBrCl2 consists of corner-sharing [Cd3X12](6-) trimers, each built of three face-sharing Cl3CdX3CdX3CdCl3 octahedra. X has equal probability of being Br- or Cl-. Optical spectroscopy shows NI(II) in all possible [NiBrxCl6 similar tox](4-)isomeric forms (x = 0,..., 6). The influence of the ligand composition on the energy of the Ni(II) ligand-field states is studied and exlained with a model including a differential nephelauxetic effect.
