Keto-lactones 1-4 have been submitted to the action of a group of selected yeasts. The mode of reduction changes with the structure of the substrate, yielding products with diastereo- and/or enantioselection. The preparation of highly functionalised chiral intermediates in enantiomerically enriched form is envisaged.
