Ferulic Acid Esterase Catalyzes the Solubilization of Beta-Glucans and Pentosans from the Starchy Endosperm Cell-Walls of Barley
Two separate, highly purified ferulic acid esterases from a fungal and bacterial source are both capable of releasing beta-glucan and pentosans from the cell wails of the starchy endosperm of barley. This suggests that ester linkages involving ferulic acid contribute to the integrity of such walls.
