Bleaching of Eucalyptus Kraft Pulp with Commercial Xylanases
Three commercially available xylanases were tested in the bleaching of Kraft pulps from Eucaliptus globulus and Eucaliptus nitens. These xylanase preparations, in combination with the sequence D0EOPD11, led to savings of chlorine dioxide that were in the range of 12 to 40% without affecting the target brightness of 90% ISO. Enzyme-treated pulps required slightly higher beating to reach the same freeness than the controls, although the strength properties of both pulps were similar.
