Preparation and characterisation of magnetic nanostructures using filtration membranes
To achieve ferromagnetic metal contents higher than those usually obtained in alumite layers, other templates with similar channel-like pores were filled with ferromagnetic cobalt by means of electrodeposition. Anodisc and track-etch polycarbonate membranes having cylindrical pores of a diameter of 100-300 nm served as such templates. The electrochemical and magnetic properties of electrodeposits obtained from a variety of cobalt electrolytes with different properties are described. The magnetic behaviour of the electrodeposits depends on the shape anisotropy and the crystal anisotropy. Compared with the situation in alumite layers, marked. perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was only found for alloys deposited from hypophosphite and maleic acid based electrolytes.
