Gasification potential of Ellujjun oil shale
In this study, an oil shale sample from the Ellujjun deposit, in the central part of Jordan, was gasified in relation to the bed temperature and type of fluidising gas using a continuous feed fluidised bed reactor. The composition, quantity and calorific value of the generated gas were determined. There was a nearly linear increase in the amount of fuel gas produced as a function of temperature, reaching similar to 350 kg (i.e. 318 m(3)) per tonne of dry raw shale, and the gross calorific value ranged from 15 to 23 MJ kg(-1) with carbon monoxide and hydrogen being the major constituents.
