PLANCTONIC-FORAMINIFERA AND BIOSTRATIGRAPHY OF THE OLIGOCENE AND NEOGENE IN THE KORBA-1 OIL-WELL (CAP-BON, NORTHEASTERN TUNISIA)
Nine lithostratigraphic units have been distinguished in the Korba 1 well (KO 1) which was drilled on the eastern coast of the Cap-Bon peninsula within the series belonging to the Oligocene and Neogene interval. The former Fortuna Sandstones Formation (BUROLLET, 1956) is elevated here at a group level and subdivided into two formations: the Korbous Formation, overlain by the El Haouaria Sandstones. Thanks to the planctonic Foraminifera present and identified in some layers of the analysed interval (Plaisancian to Rupelian), nine biozones have been recognized, allowing a rather good stratigraphic frame and reliable correlations on a world-wide scale.
