An ultra thin layer of germanium oxide with mono-atomic order thickness was prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of germanium alkoxide on gamma-alumina; the structure was analyzed by benzaldehyde-ammonia titration, extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) and infrared spectroscopy. The mono-atomic layer showed Bronsted acidity, like the silica monolayer.
