A workshop entitled Coatings on Glass was held on 18-19 January 2000 at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA, USA with the purpose of identifying key targets for improvement, technology barriers, and research needs relevant to the manufacturing of coated glass products. Experts from the glass and coatings industries, universities, and government laboratories participated. Small groups focussed on the needs of the four major sectors of the coatings industry: flat glass; container glass; fiber glass; and specialty coatings. The large number of recommendations are summarized briefly in this article. A report giving complete details is available from the author for those wishing to obtain additional information.
