An intramolecular disproportionation reaction leading to the formation of the quadruply bonded complex Cl4ReReCl2(dppf) (dppf=1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene). An example of the missing 1,3-Re2Cl6(PR3)(2) isomer
The first 1,3-Re2Cl6(PR3)(2) type isomer has been obtained by the reaction of (n-Bu4N)(2)Re2Cl8 with the bidentate phosphine Fe(C5H4PPh2)(2) (dppf). The complex Cl4ReReCl2(dppf) (1), which undergoes a reversible one-electron reduction with cobaltocene to afford [(eta (5)-C5H5)(2)Co][Re2Cl6(dppf), has a structure with a linear Re-Re-4 . . . Fe unit and an eclipsed rotational geometry.
