Assembly of octahedral cobalt(ll) ion with semirigid exobidentate ligand 1,4-bis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)-2,3.5.6-tetramethylbenzene L affords coordination polymer [CoL3](ClO4)(2). 1. which was revealed by X-ray single-crystal structural analysis to have a 2D open network with unusual(3, 6) topology.
