A low temperature method for the synthesis of new lead selenite chlorides: Pb-3(SeO3)(SeO2OH)Cl-3 and Pb-3(SeO3)(2)Cl-2
Two new lead selenite oxychlorides, Pb-3(SeO3)(SeO2OH)Cl-3 and Pb-3(SeO3)(2)Cl-2, have been synthesized by a low temperature (T similar to 160 degreesC) reflux method. This method enabled us to synthesize the compounds in high yield, 62% and 81% for Pb-3(SeO3)(SeO2OH)Cl-3 and Pb-3(SeO3)(2)Cl-2, respectively, and as crystals. Both materials contain lead(II)-oxychloride groups linked to selenium-(IV)-oxide moieties. Additional experiments indicate that Pb-3(SeO3)(SeO2OH)Cl-3 can be irreversibly converted to Pb-3(SeO3)(2)Cl-2 with a concomitant loss of HCl.
