Mixed chloride/phosphine complexes of the dirhenium core. 8. Synthesis and crystal structure of the quadruply bonded dirhenium(III) anion [Re2Cl7(PMe3](-)
A new dirhenium(III) anion [Re2Cl7(PMe3)](-) completing the series of complexes Re2Cl8-x(PMe3)(x) (x = 1, 2, 3, and 4) with the basic monodentate phosphine PMe3 has been prepared by a one-electron oxidation of the dirhenium(II,III) complex Re2Cl5(PMe3)3 in the presence of [(Bu4N)-N-n]Cl as a chloride source. It was isolated in the form of the compound [(Bu4N)-N-n]4[Re2Cl7(PMe3)](2)[Re2Cl8]. 2CH(2)Cl(2) and was structurally characterized.
