Heteropoly acids of composition H3+xPMo12-xVxO40 supported on silica and gamma-alumina catalysed the ethene oxidation with high selectivity to acetic acid. Acidic properties of the catalytic system, heteropoly anion structure and surface area affect the oxidation reaction.
