Stabilization of latex by heterogemini surfactants
Members of a new class of zwitterionic gemini surfactants have been evaluated as stabilizers of a polystyrene latex. The gemini surfactants, which previously have been found to adsorb strongly and form closely packed monolayers at hydrophobic surfaces, were found to be more efficient than the commonly used combination of anionic and nonionic surfactants in terms of providing heat and salt tolerance to the latex.
