Transfer of heavy metal ions across the water vertical bar nitrobenzene microinterface facilitated by the cadmium selective ionophore ETH1062
Selective neutral ionophores play an important role for the development of selective and sensitive chemical sensors. In this payer, the facilitating effect of the cadmium selective ionophore N,N,N',N'-tetrabutyl-3,6-dioxaoctane-dithioamide (ETH1062) on the transfer of heavy metal ions across a water / nitrobenzene microinterface has been studied by steady-state cyclic voltammetry. Complexes of the general composition MLz+ were found for the ions Zn2+ , Ag+ and Tli The formation of ML2z+; complexes was deduced for Cd2+, Cu2+ and Pb2+. The standard potentials (in mV) of the facilitated ion transfer and, in parentheses, the estimated logarithms of the over-all stability constants (molar scale) for Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Tl+ and Ag+ in nitrobenzene are - 234 (19.6), - 207 (17.9), -157 (17.2), + 95 (8.7), - 170 (6.3) and - 797 (17.9), respectively. The ionophore ETH1062 appears suitable for the design of a voltammetric or amperometric screening sensor for heavy metal ions.
