The study of hydrogen sorption in palladium limited volume electrodes (Pd-LVE) - Part II. Basic solutions
The study of hydrogen and deuterium electrosorption into the palladium limited volume electrode (Pd-LVE) has been performed in basic solutions. The results are compared with data obtained earlier in an acidic solution. As in the acidic solution, the amount of electrosorbed hydrogen, H(D)/Pd, measured electrochemically in a basic solution, depends significantly on the sweep rate in cyclic voltammetric experiments and also on the thickness of the LVE. Two different mechanisms of hydrogen desorption which operate in both basic and acidic solutions, namely the electrochemical oxidation and the non-electrochemical recombination occurring simultaneously within the Pd-LVE, have been postulated.
