Characteristics of metallic structured catalysts with high thermal conductivity
The heat transfer properties of home-made plate-type structured catalysts with coated metallic supports are investigated, using the oxidation of carbon monoxide over Pd-Al2O3 as a model reaction. It is shown that heat conduction in the supports can be exploited to curb effectively the temperature gradients. Hot spot temperatures are lower when using supports made of materials with higher intrinsic thermal conductivity and with thicker plates.
