CONSTITUENTS OF NEWSPRINT AND MUNICIPAL SOLID-WASTE HYDROLYZATES
Aqueous samples from the dilute acid hydrolysis of two different cellulose sources (newspaper and municipal solid waste pellets) were analyzed. Compounds identified included substituted furans such as furfural and furfuryl alcohol, sugar decomposition products such as levulinic acid, lignin degradation products such as vanillin and homovanillic acid, and natural plant constituents such as palmitic acid.
