The Fast Fourier Transform is an algorithm that can be used by pressure sensitive tape and label manufacturers in conjunction with an on-line basis-weight monitoring system to detect the short-term variations in coating weight that occur in the machine direction. Data from a pressure sensitive aqueous coating line demonstrates the tool's diagnostic capability.
