Synthesis and characterization of the epoxyfumarate resins
The synthesis and properties of the new epoxyfumarate and epoxymaleate resins obtained by the addition of acidic allyl maleate to the commercially available resin Epidian 5 are presented. The resins were synthesized in one- and two-step procedures and properties of the obtained resins are compared. It should be noted that the use of allyl alcohol in the synthesis of unsaturated resins has an advantageous influence on their properties. Glass-transition temperatures of the epoxyfumarate resins exceed 100degreesC, whereas those of epoxymaleates are higher than 70degreesC. The resins are also characterized by good chemical resistance.
