Zeolite Formation from Kochang Hwanto
Zeolite was synthesized from the loess(Kochang Hwangto), which is abundantly found in Kochang area of Korea. Experimental parameters such as temperature, alkali concentration and reaction time were controlled to find out the best synthesizing condition. XRD and SEM techniques were employed to characterize the synthesized zeolites. Hydroxy sodalite, analcime and cancrinite phases were identified under various experimental conditions. Also Na-P1 zeolite was obtained at the very limited temperature and alkali concentration ranges. The results show that serpentine group, the major component of the Korea loess, could be easily converted to zeolite phases.
