Water Repellent Properties of Fattyacid for Paint Additives Ester Containing Perfluoroalkyl Groups
A series of fatty acid ester with perfluorinated segments F(CF2)m(CH2)n+2-OOC-R, with m=8, 10 and n=2, 4, 8, was synthesized. The esters were characterized by FT-IR, GC and surface tension. The esters were soluble in ethyl ether, toluene, hexane, ethyl acetate, chloroform, and acetone, and insoluble in methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol. Preliminary experiments on 1,2-dichloroethane solutions showed remarkable decrease of the surface tension upon addition of the esters. Also, the esters using urethane resin and alkyd resins were coated onto glass substrate by using spin-coating method. The Contact angle of coated films were ranged from 100 to 122 ° depend on the structures of fatty acid.
