After reviewing lessons learned about rapid social change when establishing oil and gas fields around underdeveloped communities, Chevron and its joint venture participants in Papua New Guinea (PNG) established a new model to implement initiatives that promote improved partnerships and networking among development agencies. The model also ensures that sustainable results are achieved beyond the life of oil and gas production in the area. This new model serves as a vehicle for implementing current initiatives while building capacity to promote sustainable social development in the long term.
