Synthesis of Trifluoroethanol Using Trifluoroethylchloride and Alkali-metal in Aprotic Solvents
Preparation of 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol from 1,1,1-trifluoroethylchloride with alkali-metals in aprotic polar solvents has been studied. Effects of alkali-metals and solvents on the 2,2,2-trifluoroethylanol yield as well as the reaction mechanism were investigated. 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol was produced at high temperatures between 150 ℃ and 250 ℃. CH3COOK produced better yields than KOH, and the co-solvent system of γ-butyrolactone and ionic liquid [BMIM]+BF4- produced remarkably improved results.
