Surface Properties of Polymer Films by Plasma Treatment
The hot-dip coated steel sheets are frequently associated with problems such as scratching and corrosion. To improve performance of hot-dip coated steel sheets, a thin organic coating method has been introduced. In this study, plasma gas discharge was applied to modify the surface of a polymer coated-steel sheet to be hydrophobic. Since the corrosion resistance of steel is strongly related to water permeation, the surface hydrophobicity of materials was introduced by CF3H plasma exposure. The corrosion property before and after the plasma treatment was investigated in a slat spray tester of 3.5 % NaCl fog at 35 ℃. The results showed that the CF3F plasma-induced polymer exhibited significant retardation of corrosion.
