Fifth-generation deepwater rigs are showing significant performance gains, some attributable to dual or offline activity, and some the result of higher-specification equipment (e.g., pump pressures and flow rates). A modeling exercise was carried out to compare the performance of fifth-generation rigs with earlier builds. Representative performances were distilled from Intl. Assn. of Drilling Contractors (IADC) reports to enable predicting well curves and comparing rig classes.
