Tribology of fluorinated polymer Langmuir-Blodgett films on hard disk
Fluorinated polymer, poly(N-1H,1H-pentadecafluorooctylacrylamide) (polyC7F15AA) forms a stable monolayer on the water surface and the monolayer was successfully deposited onto a hard disk by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method. The characterization of the fluorinated polymer LB film was carried out to explore a novel solid lubricant of magnetic recording systems. The uniform covering of the LB film on the hard disk are confirmed by a time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometer. The high thermal stability upto 250 degreesC of the LB film was examined by thermal desorption spectroscopy. The ambient and warm/wet contact start-stop test reveals that the LB film with 3 layers can be used for a lubricant of hard disk with durable enough for practical use. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V.
