Melting behaviors of lamellar crystals of poly(bisphenol A-co-decane ether) studied by in-situ atomic force microscopy
Edge-on and flat-on lamellar crystals of poly(bisphenol A-co-decane ether) were prepared at different temperatures. The melting behaviors of the lamellar crystals were studied in real time at elevated temperatures using an atomic force microscope equipped with a high temperature heater accessory. The melting-recrystallization-remelting behaviors of the lamellar crystals prepared at 75degreesC were studied. The melting of the edge-on lamellae produced many disconnected lamellar block crystals of different lengths. The melting of the flat-on lamellae clearly showed that the edges of the lamellar crystals became corrugated with holes inside the lamellae. Edge-on and flat-on lamellae grown at 80degreesC were more stable than those crystallized at 75degreesC.
