Mechanism of self-assembly and rupture of cross-linked microspheres and microgels at the oil-water interface
Lightly cross-linked, swellable poly(divinylbenzene-alt-maleic anhydride) microgels were allowed to self-assemble at the oil-water interfaces of a propyl acetate-water suspension and covalently fixed in place using polyamines to form novel, flexible microgel capsules. The capsule wall morphology was studied by optical and environmental scanning electron microscopies. The mechanism of tectocapsule formation and core solvent release is discussed.
