A systematic methodology for the design development and scale-up of complex chemical processes. The role of control and concurrent design
The paper presents a coherent methodology for the development of the design and control for new complex nonlinear chemical processes. The method uses concurrent design in which control considerations are an important part at all phases of the development and design. Control is used to compensate for the impact of the model uncertainties on the design. The method indicated is based on the author's experience and summarizes his recent work focusing on safe scale-up and the ability to meet specifications, which minimize the development cost and in most cases eliminate the need for large pilot plants.
