In this novel motif, thallium and gold atoms define a complex three-dimensional [AuTI7] polyanion in which the barium atoms fill pentagonal cages that are part of highly condensed infinite channels. Relativistic effects appear to be significant in the short Au-TI and TI-TI distances and the bonding by the more electronegative gold.
