Nitrate-selective ion exchange resines which have bulky triallkyl amine [NR3 = NPr3[N(CH2CH2CH3)3] (IX-3), NBu3 [N(CH2CH2CH2CH3)3] (IX-4), NPe3[N(CH2 CH2CH2CH2CH3)3] (IX-5) as functional group have been synthesized by the reaction of chloromethylated polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer and the corresponding trialkyl amine in ethanol. Synthesized resines, (IX-3), (IX-4), and (IX-5) appeared to be more nitrate selective while commericial resin (IX-1) having NMe3[N(CH3)3] as functional group showed sulfate selective in low concentration of NO3-/SO42-(1:1) mixed solution. The functional group of ion exchange resin for the effective NO3- removal was in the order of NPr3>NBu3>NEt3>NMe3>NPe3
