Combinatorial synthesis of a library of acrylic acid-based polymers and their evaluation as immobilisation matrix for amperometric biosensors
Based on the analysis of the composition of commercially available anodic electrodeposition paints (EDP) a library containing 62 members of small quantities of EDP was synthesised aiming on the adaptation of the specific characteristics of the EDP to the properties of amperometric glucose biosensors. The obtained polymers were precipitated by means of an electrochemically-induced pH-value modulation in the diffusion zone in front of a Pt working electrode in the presence of glucose oxidase as biological recognition compound. The properties of the polymers, which are mainly defined by the nature and composition of the integrated monomers, differ significantly leading to remarkable changes in the linear range of detection and maximum current of the derived amperometric glucose biosensors. By means of a rational variation of the monomers and their concentration ratio the impact of the different monomers on the polymer properties can be deduced. Thus, the present study is a starting point for the envisaged rational design of specific sensor properties according to the needs of the desired analysis. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
