Because scale management in subsea fields is expensive compared with platform or onshore fields and because intervention opportunities are limited, it is important to perform risk analysis for scale management as early as possible. This process involves identifying potential scale risks and analyzing and comparing options available for managing those risks. A crossdiscipline approach that uses reservoir engineering, production chemistry, and completion engineering can lead to a more complete assessment of the scale risk and the correct selection of a control program.
