Numerical simulation of unsteady interactions between flow, heat conduction and acoustics within a Rijke tube
The method of simulating the Rijke effect presented in this paper constitutes a preliminary step towards the simulation of self-excited combustion instabilities or oscillations in combustion chambers. In many cases the mechanism exciting them is similar, except for the fact that in the latter case energy is supplied by way of combustion. Since in numerous technical applications combustion oscillations cause serious problems, the method used here is being employed for ongoing work on simulating this type of oscillation.
