Viscosity of aqueous solutions of 2-methoxyethanol, 2-ethoxyethanol, and ethanolamine
Viscosity (eta) of (water + 2-methoxyethanol), (water + 2-ethoxyethanol), and (water + ethanolamine) were measured precisely at the temperatures (303.15, 308.15, 313.15, 318.15, and 323.15) K covering the whole composition range. The viscosity deviations (Deltaeta) from linearity based on mole fraction were calculated from the viscosity data and fitted to the Redlich-Kister equation. The Deltaeta values are positive over the entire range of composition for (water + 2-methoxyethanol) and (water + 2-ethoxyethanol). Deltaeta exhibits maximum at x similar to 0.30 for (water + 2-methoxyethanol), and at x similar to 0.28 for (water + 2-ethoxyethanol). While Deltaeta values for (water + ethanolamine) are slightly negative up to x similar to 0.24 with minimum at x similar to 0.11, then become more positive over the rest composition with maximum at x similar to 0.72. The Deltaeta values, in all the cases, decrease with the increase in temperature. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
