Determination of limit load by means of elastic-plastic finite element analysis as exemplified by a lateral nozzle subjected to cyclic external load
Welded pipe connections on vessels and piping are generally subjected to high loads, which can enter from restrained thermal expansion, vibration of pipes or shock pressures caused when opening valves. Presented is a method for determining the shakedown limit of components using the finite-element method, which is based on material ductility and which can make statements of load limit and failure of the components.
