A systematic framework for the development of extractive reaction processes is presented, It consists of four steps: synthesis of process flow sheets on the basis of reactive-phase diagrams, evaluation of process trade-offs using geometrical design methods, analysis of kinetics and mass transfer effects, and selection of reactor types for the desired performance, We demonstrate these methods for a five-component system with two reactions in parallel.
