The membrane extraction of gold from aqueous alkaline cyanide solution has been studied using a microporous ultrafiltration hollow-fiber contractor. Extraction rates reported as aqueous phase-based mass-transfer coefficients are influenced by the boundary layer resistance on the aqueous side. Mass-transfer coefficients inferred from the measurements support a hollow-fibre design equation for these contactors developed from gas absorption.
