Performance-Characteristics of Packings with Boundary-Layer Turbulizers .2. The Packing Dynamic Hold-Up
The dynamic hold-up of a honeycomb-type packing (Turbo-Pack) with grooves intended for liquid turbulization in the region of the boundary layer has been studied. The packing ensured enhancement of liquid-film and gas-film controlled mass transfer as well as a lower pressure drop per mass transfer unit. A comparison has also been made by studying packings without turbulizers. The effects of geometry, superficial gas and liquid velocities and liquid-phase properties on the packing hold-up have been investigated. Based on the experimental data obtained, equations for determining the packing hold-up under and over the loading point are derived.
