Simulation of detachment of porous filter cakes in surface filtration
With increasing environmental efforts, techniques like dust separation are becoming highly important. This paper gives an overview and the results of a simulation for the detachment of filter cakes from filter media, as occurring at the regeneration in dust-separation plants. The aim is to give an estimate for the ideal values for the relevant parameters in order to achieve high regeneration degrees. The simulation itself uses a dimension-reduced model, in which the filter cake is divided into horizontal blocks. For each block the agent forces are balanced in order to ascertain detachment behavior. The simulation accounts for frictional forces at the block borders, interparticulate frictional and adhesive forces in the filter cake and adhesive forces between filter cake and filter medium.
