Performance of an activated carbon honeycomb supported V2O5 catalyst in simultaneous SO2 and NO removal
Activated carbon honeycomb supported vanadium oxide (V2O5/ACH) catalysts were studied for simultaneous SO2 and NO removal at temperatures of 150-250degreesC. For comparison, a granular activated carbon (AC, used in activated carbon honeycomb (ACH) preparation) supported catalyst and a crushed monolith catalyst were also investigated. The honeycomb catalysts supported with 2wt% V2O5 Show high activities in simultaneous SO2 and NO removal at about 200 degreesC. Regeneration of the used catalyst in 5 vol% NH3 /Ar results in a slight increase in SO2 removal activity, and significant increase in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) activity. The inorganic binders used in preparation of ACH show significant effect on reduction of micropores, surface area, and on the SO2 and NO removal activities. Alkali and alkaline-earth metal oxides in the binder were proposed to be the main factors affecting the activities Of SO2 and NO removal. Lower temperatures are favorable for the SO2 removal, higher temperatures are favorable for the NO reduction. (C) 2004 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
