Networking intelligent subsea completions
Intelligent completions are expected to play a growing role in major subsea fields. Currently, single-point pressure sensors are used for subsea control pods. These sensors have no dedicated software at the topside for any computation more complicated than applying polynomial equations. Generally, the communication protocols across umbilicals are proprietary to each pod vendor, which requires a new interface card for each application. A networking approach is proposed for intelligent subsea completions by use of common practices of the process control and information technology industries.
