The study of liposomal encapsulation efficiency for hydrophilic actives
The study of the encapsulation efficiency of various actives in liposomal transdermal delivery systems is very important in cosmetic fields. We employed arbutin entrapped liposome systems to study of encapsulation efficiency and experimented with varying preparation factors that solvent types like propylene glycol, concentration of solvents and phospholipids and many kinds of membrane stabilizer such as questamide, cetylphosphate and polysorbate 60. To determinate encapsulation efficiency, we removed free arbutin in outer phase by minicolumn centrifugation method with Sephadex G-50 and performed to phospholipid quantity by Stewart assay and employed HPLC for arbutin quantiation. As a results, relatively high encapsulation efficiency was obtained when used propylene glycol as a solvent and used Questamide as a membrane stabilizer but added amount of phosphatidyl choline(PC) was the most important causion.
