Substitution of chromium in passivation baths of galvanised steel
It is well known that chromium has a high toxicity level and carcinogenic effects. Its substitution becomes a major concern. This study proposes other products that are non-toxic at all or as least toxic as possible. For that purpose, we conducted performance comparative tests (with respect to chromium) of two electrolytes: a heteropolysiloxane (HPS) and a molybdate. The results show, in addition of its non toxic quality, a net superiority of the HPS compared to Chromium and molybdate regarding corrosion protection. The molybdate coating is of less rustproof quality compared to both HPS and Chromium.
