Tools are available for building 3D Earth models and for quantifying uncertainties of parameters associated with the Earth models, making it much easier to understand the effect of all subsurface uncertainties on field production. A chain of tools has been developed at TotalFinaElf to deal with the quantification of subsurface uncertainties.
