The Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant will reprocess British, European and Japanese nuclear fuel and is currently being commissioned. The Head End and Chemical Separation Plant processes within THORP are described and the development of their design illustrated by reference to the fuel dissolver off-gas system, the uranium-plutonium separation process and the control of the pulsed column solvent extraction contactors.
